Tosh Tattoo – Tatuagens Lettering (Escrita)

Some tattoo styles don’t have a specific “meaning,” and that’s perfectly fine. The pursuit of beauty, as long as it is excessive, is one of the main driving forces behind art. In the case of NeoGrafismo, however, its meaning is not explicit. It is a style inspired by the graphic traditions of Brazil’s Indigenous peoples, while respecting their cultural contexts and deliberately avoiding the direct use or reproduction of original cultural pieces, so as not to appropriate them. Instead, it draws from a similar aesthetic—the appearance of something handcrafted—as well as certain forms, structures, and other visual characteristics observed across these traditions. The concept is subliminal; it unfolds through the poetics of its construction. It begins with an individual process of self-knowledge and extends outward, toward reclaiming and valuing our roots and our intrinsic cultural heritage. It also addresses something I consider particularly important in the age of HYPER-IDEALIZATION: humanization—the beauty of the “imperfect” and the “rustic.” It evokes a world free from the demands of perfectionism that the Industrial Age imposed upon contemporary society. In contrast, authenticity brings with it an appreciation for singularity.
